The Speaker's Bio:

John Olsen is an insurance agent and estate planner practicing in St Louis, Missouri. He is a published author, instructor and consultant in annuities and investment products. He has written and taught courses in insurance, financial, and estates planning and conducted seminars for agents, planner, and lay audiences. 


In addition to serving his own clients, John provides case consulting services to attorneys, accountants, insurance and financial advisors and provides expert witness services in litigation involving annuities and investment products.


John has written articles on life insurance, annuitites, planning software, and financial&estate planning topics for numbers trade publications. He has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Investment Advisor, Money, Time, Barron's, Investment News, On Wall St, and other publications.  John's article, "Annuities and Suitabilility: Reflections on the State of the Debate," appearing the Nov 2006 Journal of Financial Service Professionals, won First prize in the 2006 Kenneth Black, Jr Journal Author Award Program. He is co-author, with Michael E. Kitces, of The Advisor's Guide to Annuities(3rd. ed, National Underwriter Co., 2012), with Jack Marrion, of Index Annuites: A Suitable Approach (Olsen & Marrion, 2011) and author of Taxation and Suitability of Annuities for the Professional Advisor (Olsen & Marrion, 2012 - www.indexannuitybook.com


In 2011, John received the Paul S. Mills Schoarship by the Foundation for Financial Service Professionals.  

He is a sought after speaker with an extensive resume of presentations which include: NAIFA, SFP, American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys, and "Arizona Institute" of the Society of Financial Service Professionals among others.  He lives in Kirkwood, Missouri with his wife, Katherine. He enjoys reading and playing guitar, arguing almost anything, is an adequate pistol shot ,and a terrible golfer.
